The Enterprise crew decided that going back to 2020 in their time machine to find out what happened to civil society in that year was not a good idea. Actually wanting to visit an insane asylum was a bad idea to begin with!!
What they discovered was terrifying. A total loss of commons sense and logic according to Spock who has a logic based DNA. The captain though understood enough medical history to know what to look for in a society that has lost ethical and moral direction and therefore risked collapse of it's core values in mere months that were established over hundreds of years.
Never in history was so much success lost so quickly! The crew wanted to find out why.
Spock and Captain Kirk escaped back to their Star Ship Enterprise as fast as they could wonder how they were able to save themselves for destruction The captain thought it must have been the president's leadership that saw them through and the majority of the people that believed he was right. Actually it was the people themselves that determined the outcome by voting for the freedom to chose and the liberty to accomplish personal success.
