We see this play out every night on TV. The crime here is the larger majority of the population is still perplexed by the violence and so are transfixed by it. But as time goes by the average citizen that once saw the rest of the population as just other citizens seeking a life of their own, begin to have a change of behavior. They no longer believe everyone wants the same things that you do and therefore begin to take offense at the action they see in the streets as a threat to them personally. It's a very slow and smoldering fear of others taking advantage of them.
A change that will not bode well for the future of this country. Once the behavior change is complete, where all passed beliefs of equality of out comes were from hard work, and the personal freedom to chose ones own destiny is no longer an option, the country will truly be transformed.
To illustrate this even further, not sure who wrote this but it applies here, "When confronted with insurgencies, people wait too long to recognize the danger and then are to often paralyzed by it".
That part of being paralyzed by the hate and destruction of our civil society is falling away and being replaced by frustration and anger.
