Interesting discussion as to what America means today given how divided we are. Just what does it mean to be free? What is the individual freedom to chose? How important is it? Does it matter in the larger society that is hell bent on taking as much power for themselves as each group can seeking control of all others?
What ever happened to being one group of like minded citizens, I love my country that has given me everything, that want to succeed but not at the expense of others? Does our Constitution mean anything anymore? The Bill of Rights?
What this video does is force us to think about where we are today. I have considered it and brought some thoughts here to bear below.
I love this country as it has given me everything my whole life, why would I hate this country? It's my freedom to chose and a sense of pride, knowing that so many that have gone before me have given everything, their last full measure, so I can stand in one spot admiring what they, the greatest generation left for all of us to enjoy without the fear of being under the boot of others.
A lot of this is true. We have, in some ways lost our vision as to what makes us special among the world. We try to police a world that is totally corrupted by their own self interests but at the same time demanding America give them everything they want but not necessarily need. America becomes confused as to what is the best direction we should go, leaving much of the our country in a state of chaos and conflict producing a once expanding society twisting in the wind.
Still, millions flock to our shores looking for something that most other countries don't have, a chance to be better then they right now. Most other Western nation don't allow themselves to be over run by people seeking refuge and the good life, but bring little or nothing to offer in exchange. Still we allow them to enter by the millions. How come this is true if we as a people are a failed society?
Medical, educational and spiritual assets that once were a given under our Constitution are now under assault. Yet, if America would truly go into default, slip it's anchor and be cast a drift, the world as we know it would no longer exit. For all of our faults, we still lead as a nation built by people that work hard and believe their life is better here then another place on earth.
Here is a picture of just one instance of how the world understands the need for freedom : "Freedom means having nothing else to lose!"
