The general public is said to be smart and alert to the criminals that today are at the levers of power. They can't easily be fooled! Right? But we have no idea actually who the general public is. They are not your father's or mother's public. They are all those people with their collective heads down exercising their thumbs.
Remember Einstein's comment: "There is a major difference between intelligence and stupidity; intelligence has its limits."
