Maybe the tide is turning in the direction of common sense and moral decency. The war for self preservation is now out in the open!
Much like during ancient times, the inquisitors thought they were god's own helpers to purify the lost and ignorant among them with demands to agree that they were the pure ascendants from the one true authority, god!
The rewards for obedience was living another day!
The new morality that began in the late 20th century with the rise of a liberalism that sought personal power over others, has now manifested itself into total authoritarian power to demand obedience to their law for survival.
The problem though is the indigents and uneducated. the lower classes are not happy with the old ways as they now have a leader that pulled back the curtain letting in the light of personal freedom to chose their own destines.
Horrors of horrors for the self-proclaimed power brokers!
Hence the war for control has taken on new and more vicious aspects where the opposition to the new norm, the status quo, believe murdering those who oppose them is the final solution to getting and keeping the power for control.
