Medicaid Proposal by GOP to Save 1.8 Trillion

Medicaid. National Center for Political Analysis

A group of House Republicans introduced legislation this week that would freeze federal Medicaid payments to states, saving $1.8 trillion in federal spending.

In exchange for the funding cut, the federal government would give states full control over who is eligible to enroll, what benefits are available, and how much doctors and hospitals get paid.

This is not only a good idea to reduce the deficit, it is simply good policy and good government. For more information on why Medicaid block grants are a good idea, see NCPA’s study.
