Death Panel to be Repealed : Congress Ready to Vote

If you have forgotten about Sarah Palin's comment on the Independent Payments Advisory Board as a "death panel" then you had better wake up to reality. It's here but the good news is the Congress is trying to stop it.

Pay attention to what's going on in Washington as it effects us all, and the only way to stop this nightmare is to support those that are taking a stand on this issue.

IPAB. Efforts to repeal the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) are moving forward in the House of Representatives. This week, the House Ways and Means Committee approved bipartisan legislation by voice vote to repeal IPAB. Last week, the House Energy and Commerce Committee voted 17-5 to approve similar legislation. IPAB is a fifteen-member panel created by the Obamacare health reform law.

The panel is charged with controlling costs in Medicare and is empowered to deny certain services that are deemed too costly in order to keep overall Medicare spending below predetermined targets.

IPAB’s decisions do not need Congressional approval to become law.

During the debate, House Republicans frequently called the panel a “rationing board” because of IPAB’s power to limit spending on health care. But several House Democrats also support IPAB’s repeal because they think too much power has been given to the panel without Congressional oversight. The House of Representatives is expected to consider the legislation by the end of March.
