It's always nice when a mother and daughter can get along - most of the time there is a lot of friction, but in this case, everything is coming up tennis balls and frisbees - what a delight they are to have around.
Barb trains dogs for fun and profit and if there is one thing that I have learned over the thirty years that we have had dogs is that they are part of the family. If you can't except them like that, then you are missing a very important part of living.
I watch some of her students that come here for training, and almost all of the time those with the worst problems have a problem with communication. They, as adults, can not let go of themselves long enough to reach out to these family members that don't speak a word but scream out with their eyes and body movements for some understanding from their human owners.
When we try and explain that a human can communicate with these four legged members of society, they look at us with complete bewilderment. They are just dogs is the reply. Barb explains that you have let go yourself and become someone else, look into their eyes and be someone that wants to be a friend and companion.
It's important that you believe you can actually have a dog for a friend.
Some people will never understand what it is like to have that beautiful bond between human and animal - that magnificent feeling when you look into their eyes and feel that complete trust and friendship. I can not comprehend what it would be like without them.
