Recently, federal investigators, inspectors general, and investigative journalists have uncovered some of the largest welfare fraud schemes in modern history, originating in Minnesota. These schemes diverted billions of taxpayer dollars from programs meant to support vulnerable populations, including childcare assistance, autism services, and housing aid. Instead of reaching families in need, funds were siphoned off by bad actors exploiting weak controls, lax oversight, and a culture of indifference within state agencies. Equally concerning are credible allegations that statewide officials ignored repeated warnings, failed to act on clear red flags, and in some cases discouraged or intimidated whistleblowers who tried to report misconduct under Tim Walz’s policies. These were not isolated errors, but systemic failures that allowed fraud to continue for years at the expense of taxpayers.

As your member of Congress, I remain firmly dedicated to fiscal responsibility and a sound budget. Taxpayer dollars must be spent as Congress intended, and government officials at every level have a duty to prevent waste, fraud, and abuse.
