ObamaCare Taking Over Vending Machines? : Where Does the Madness End?

Frist - how does one program have the authority over another that doesn't have anything to do with the other like the affordable health care and vending machines? This is crazy - this is tyranny of  the few. This is progressive democrat ideology. This is progressive socialism being rammed down our collective throats while we do nothing to stop it!

Who in their right minds would willingly vote for ones own destruction? Who would willingly vote for more democrats? This is insane!!

Obamacare Places New Regulations on Vending Machines

Obamacare has given the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authority to regulate vending machines. A new rule requires operators owning twenty or more machines to include calorie counts on or adjacent to the snack dispensers. While the FDA touts the new regulations will lower health care costs by $7.5 million by decreasing obesity, consumer behavior has not been tested.

Meanwhile, past studies have shown that displaying calories in restaurants does not affect individual calorie intake. Candy bars and snacks already include calorie count labels and vending machines make up a small portion of food consumed by the average individual.

Expected annual spending on governmental compliance checks is an estimated $38 million each year over twenty years. By 2036, this program will have cost the government over $400 million. In addition, the cost of owner implementation will be $26 million with an annual cost of $24 million after the first year, partly due to the difficulty of retrofitting vending machines with the labeling.

Congress could save millions of dollars each year by paying closer attention to consumer decision-making habits. Moreover, Congress should, at very least, force the FDA to test its effectiveness before funding an experimental proof of concept.
 

King V Burwell Decision Coming : Subsides Going Away. It's The Law

Oh no, you mean the people will have to abide by the actual law was written, and not what Mr Obama decided what his law should say so he can reap the required number of people that will be forced in medial plans they don't want and can't afford?

The original design of this nightmare was to destroy the health care system that existed before ObamaCare was passed as it worked for 92% of the population. To the progressive democrats this was unacceptable. ObamaCare was designed to make sure everyone, not just those in need of care, but everyone must have substandard and expensive care and become dependent.

How else can one sixth of the entire economy be brought under the control of the progressive socialists democrats? ObamaCare is only about control - ObamaCare in is not about health care and never ways. Little wonder no Republicans were involved in its design and none voted for it. Not one!

Individuals receiving subsidies in states which could be affected by the Supreme Court King v. Burwell Ruling could see an average increase of 255 percent in their required premium contributions. That means nearly 7.5 million Americans could face a premium increase in 2015 based on "Health Insurance Marketplace 2015 Open Enrollment Period: January Enrollment Period: ASPE Research Brief". The premium increases would be concentrated in low-income populations in red states where the Federal exchanges are established.

87 percent of federal exchange customers currently receive subsidies. If the Court declares subsidies illegal in federal exchange states:

• Average monthly premium contributions for enrollees could increase between 122 percent and 774 percent, depending on the state.
• Residents in Alaska and Mississippi will see the highest percentage increase in their premium contributions.

Under the Affordable Care Act in 2015, consumers are eligible for a hardship exemption from the individual mandate if the premium of the lowest cost Bronze Plan available to them in their region exceeds 8.05 percent of their income. Loss of premium subsidies in federally run exchanges would mean many exchange consumers will be exempt from the individual mandate.

Also, it could undermine employer responsibility requirements in those areas, because the employer mandate is tied to employees claiming a premium subsidy. The implications of the ruling concerning the individual mandate will have a larger impact on younger enrollees, who are less likely to be exempt from the mandate due to age rating differences.


 

Smart Phones for Medical Diagnosis : Security An Issue With New FCC Ruling?

Innovation is so important to advance medical technology and therefore heath care for this country and this is a good one. The only thing standing in the way of new technology is the progressive democrats and their collective votes that brought us all ObamaCare.

But like everything that has anything to do with progressive socialist democrats, they have decided one of the key elements of the ideology of total control was missing, and that was control of the internet. The internet is vital for this new technology that promises so much for our health care. What? Oh wait, they now have the first step in place with the new ruling by the FCC - five people have decided to take control of the internet as ordered by Mr Obama.

I wonder how this will effect the security of medical records that can be used as a tool against the population by democrats and their friends?

Investments in digital health ventures doubled in 2014. Institutions, analysts and MDs envision the opportunity to reduce the colossal inefficiency of current medical practice by exploiting the Internet of Things, says Jeong Seo, research associate at the National Center for Policy Analysis.

Additionally, according to a recent JAMA article, the number of mobile devices connected via the internet is doubling every five years, and there will be nearly seven connected devices per individual by 2020.

The development most directly affecting today's patient is sensors in smartphones and wearable devices. Such technology quantify physiologic metrics ranging from an individual's number of steps taken to his or her vital signs.

Smartphones have already achieved what pedometers have not: wide adoption by the general population. Nearly two out of three U.S. adults own a smartphone and over one in four Americans have used sensors to track activity.

• Counting steps has been a successful tool used to improve clinical outcomes.
• Smartphone cameras can now diagnose skin lesions with accuracy equivalent to or exceeding that of physicians.
• Similar applications for blood pressure and glucose levels have already hit consumer markets.

As digital medicine moves rapidly, key dynamics to monitor include congressional approval and privacy issues. The medical community, regulators and consumers will decide how these innovations are used. The technology itself, however, is not slowing down for anyone.

 

Federal Spending Cuts for Everyone : Even PBS and NPR

Just imagine a senator or reprehensive standing on the floor of congress and advocating getting rid of funding for some of the most sacred institutions that the progressive socialist liberal democrats make them feel sooooo good? Horrors!

And even better, the liberals that knew everything about what's best for everyone, believe all of these sacred cows are the very foundation of the ideology of the new progressivism ,where the general public, severally lacking the higher standards of life and learning need lesson in culture, and what better way to do this is to have them pay for it at the same time. Now how cool is that?

Liberal democrats can demand change and have others pay for it at the same time. It just seems like the right thing to do.

The Heritage Foundation has released a great report on ways to cut federal spending category by category. In fact, the report notes that over the last two decades, federal spending has grown a staggering 63 percent faster than inflation.

Reining in spending will require cuts in every sector -- from science to energy to agriculture to national defense to transportation and welfare. Here are a few of the report's suggestions on cutting spending on education, training, employment and social services:

• Privatizing the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), which funds services such as PBS or NPR, would save Americans $445 million every year. In 2012, 82 percent of spending on public broadcasting came from non-federal sources, and the report contends PBS and NPR could survive on their own without government funding.
• Getting rid of the Job Corps would save Americans $19 billion over a decade. The program is intended to teach trade skills to youth, but a National Job Corps Study concluded that for every $25,000 that taxpayers invest in a single Job Corps participant, Corp participants were less likely to graduate from high school than their peers, were no more likely to attend or complete college and earned just 22 cents more in hourly wages compared to their peers, wasting taxpayer dollars.
• Eliminating funding for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA and the National Endowment for Humanities (NEH) would save Americans $3.2 billion over a decade. The report notes that private giving to the arts far outweigh federal funding (Americans gave $13.1 billion 2011 to the arts and humanities, compared to just $292 million from the NEA and NEH), and private philanthropy would be more than sufficient to support the arts.

The report calls cutting entitlement spending "the ultimate challenge," as half of all federal spending goes to just three programs: Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

More tax reform is needed but won't happen - too many hands in the till and thumbs on the scales of justice. Just like everything else these days, the congress is totally ineffective and totally irresponsible.

The United States has a modified version of classical corporate tax system, which places a double-tax on corporate income with one tax at the corporate level through the corporate income tax and a second tax at the individual level through the individual income tax on dividends and capital gains.
The two layers of tax create a significant tax burden on corporate income. No matter how the corporation distributes its after-tax profits as a dividend or retains it, the integrated corporate tax rate in the United States is high compared to other developed countries. The United States\' integrated tax rate on corporate profits (56.6 percent) and on capital gains (56.6 percent) are both the second highest in the OECD.

The double taxation of corporate earnings creates several economic distortions that have real effects on both business decisions and the overall economy. It reduces saving and investment, shifts traditional C corporations to non-corporate business forms, and encourages corporations to use debt financing more than equity financing.

Integrating the individual and corporate tax code would lower the combined burden on corporate income and eliminate many of biases in the current system. There are several ways to integrate the corporate tax code.

• Corporate income can be fully taxed at the entity level (a corporate income tax) and then tax exempt when passed to shareholders as dividend income, or corporations could be given a deduction for dividends passed to their shareholders, who pay tax on the dividend income. Six OECD countries (Estonia, Slovak Republic, Finland, France, Luxembourg, and Turkey) have full or partial dividend exemptions.
• Shareholders and corporations both pay tax on their income, but shareholders can acquire a credit to offset taxes the corporation has previously paid. Seven OECD countries (Australia, Canada, Chile, Mexico, New Zealand, Korea, and United Kingdom) have full or partial credit imputation systems.

Integrating the corporate and individual income tax could ensure that corporate income is only taxed once and would increase the incentive to invest and reduce the incentive to avoid the second layer of tax. This would eliminate the current biases in the tax code and encourage investment and economic growth.
 

Energy Strategy Ideology By Mr Obama : Fossil Fuels Must be Eliminated

The attack continues on fossil fuels and our natural resources that has fueled our history for prosperity in America, and this is reason why Mr Obama and his fellow progressive socialist liberal democrats are attacking all our natural sauces of energy.

For the progressive socialists, prosperity is the most disastrous thing that can happen to the American people as this limits the power of the socialist to take control of the citizens. Citizens mist not have options for that can determine their futures.

In January, President Obama and then the Bureau of Ocean Energy management enacted a series of policies to set limitations on both onshore and offshore oil and gas production in Alaska.

The "all-of-the-above" energy policy is intended to support economic growth and job creation, to enhance energy security, and to deploy low-carbon energy technologies and lay the foundation for a clean energy future. However, the only thing the president's all-of-the-above energy policy has done is hold back the industry's growth.

• Marketed production of crude oil, natural gas, coal, and other fossil fuels on federal lands has fallen by 16 percent from 2009 to 2013.
• Production from federal land was 33 percent of the county\'s entire output in 2009, yet 25 percent in 2013.
• Production of natural gas and crude oil on federal lands fell by 19 percent from 2009 to 2013.
• The annual average number of applications approved for offshore oil and gas drilling is 63 percent lower than it was under President George W. Bush.
• Production in federal waters in the Gulf of Mexico, Alaska, and California has fallen by 18 percent since 2009.
• The average number of offshore federal leases activated has been 363 a year under Obama, down from 656 under Bush.

Actually, the shale oil and gas boom in the United States, which has taken place on private lands has used hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling, reduced the oil prices, increased the crude production, and made the United States a leading producer of oil and natural gas. President Obama should allow Alaskans to develop their own resources.
 

Export-Import Bank A Disaster of Waste and Corruption : Shut It Down!

Is this just more 'politics as usual'? It's obvious the Export-Import Bank is a waste of money and seems to serve only those that are well connected to it's funding. What remains is just who is in a position to benefit by the reauthorizations? One thing for sure it's not he taxpayers.

It look like just more 'take the money and run' from our illustrious leadership.

As talk in Congress rises for extending the Export-Import Bank (Ex-Im) of the United States' charter, Diane Katz, research fellow at the Heritage Foundation, argues closing the bank is the only solution to the litany of problems it has caused. Nevertheless, U.S. lawmakers have introduced legislation to reauthorize the Ex-Im charter through 2019, which includes reforms to some bank procedures.

However, in spite of past reforms instituted by previous Congresses, Ex-Im has not fully complied with risk-management standards.
Consider:

• The Office of Inspector General and the Government Accountability Office have repeatedly documented the bank's mismanagement, dysfunction and risk.
• No amount of bureaucratic tinkering can shield taxpayers from bailouts in the event that bank reserves run dry — as occurred in the 1980s — nor will it protect American businesses from the disadvantages of the U.S. government subsidizing their foreign competitors.
• The bank serves just 0.5 percent of small businesses nationwide. As it is, the bank finances less than 2 percent of total U.S. exports (by value). The recent record levels of American exports indicate no shortage of private financing.

Therefore, Congress would do well to consider the various drawbacks related to reauthorizing the Export-Import Bank, which includes distortions in the distribution of labor and capital and higher consumer costs. Thus, it is time to recognize the differences between support for big business and support for free enterprise.
 

DHS Shut Down A Win for Good Local Governemnt?

It appears from this article the federal government is crippling the states by it's offers of free stuff in place of having communities make the hard decision on the funding their essential needs like police and fire organizations. The feds make it so easy to except the hand-outs instead of communities making hard decisions.

It's like drugs, the more you have the more you want.

But this 'I'm here to help' accommodation is just another way to allow the state and the local communities to spend their limited revenue on things that produce only more votes for state and local politicians all the while neglecting their responsibilities to the taxpayers..

DHS Shutdown could be a Win for Federalism

Looming decisions over a funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) could partially shut down the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The Republican-led Congress does not want to approve the DHS funding bill because it also funds Obama's recent immigration executive actions. Meanwhile the White House contends shutting down FEMA will cause disruptions that will see negative effects. The disruptions, however, are emblematic of an oversized government, not an immigration issue — but why?

Because the federal government has intervened in the responsibilities of states, local governments and the private sector, federal agency shut-downs create confusion, having taken jurisdiction and resources from the entities closest to the issues.

FEMA, for example, holds many of the emergency resources needed to keep communities safe from disasters. When they cannot perform their duties because of partial shut-downs, local governments and organizations must pick up the slack though they are under-supplied. These resources include grants to help firefighters, police officers, medical personnel and emergency managers receive the staff, training and equipment needed to respond properly in times of crisis.

Congress could reduce the size and scope of the federal government by voting against the Department of Homeland Security funding bill, and in doing so move the United States closer to federalism.
 

Government Workers Have More Security/Advantages : Who Knew?

Little wonder the flock of entitlement minded individuals has grown like weeds in the front yard. With the progressives socialists democrats in power at every level of government, and tens of millions of voters more then willing to partake of all the free stuff coming from the employees that know what side of the bread has the butter.

Staying power is the actually bread of life, but the butter is the ideology that's makes it work 
for the progressive socialist. Besides, it's the ideology that drives them to positions of power where the good life of having others do all the work is the ultimate goal.

Public Sector Jobs Have More Advantages During the Great Recession

The compensation received by public-sector workers has raised more attention in the aftermath of the Great Recession. To compare the compensation packages between public-sector workers and their private sector counterparts, an important nonpecuniary benefit — job security — should be considered.

Some researchers have argued that working for government is always a better choice than working in the private sector because they consider it "recession proof," while others argue the private sector has always had an upper hand on the public sector. However, during the recent economic recession, there was no discernable difference between the two.

A recent study from Jason L. Kopelman and Harvey S. Rosen shows that working in the public sector is more secure during nonrecession years, and the advantage of working in the public sector improves during recessions.

During nonrecession years,

• Federal employees are 4.2 percentage points less likely to lose their jobs than private sector workers.
• State employees (other than teachers) are 3.3 percentage points less likely to lose their jobs compared to their private sector counterparts.
• For local government employees, they are 4.2 percentage points less likely to be laid off than private sector workers

Their conclusion applies to both genders, all races, and different levels of educational attainment. They also separate teachers from other groups due to the idiosyncrasies of the market for teachers, with the same results.

Government employment has a sizable advantage over private sector employment with respect to job security. The advantage appears more apparent during the Great Recession.
