Green Loan Program Starts Again : $Billions Lost From Failed Policy

Given the total failures of Obama's green energy programs and the $billions of dollars wasted and redirected into democrat campaign programs, it isn't a great leap of understanding to seek to abolish the energy department. As it is structured now as simple a money laundering system for the democrat bundlers that have preformed serves during the last election, and now are hard at work replenishing revenue to be used in the next election to sup[port more democrats at taxpayer expense.

Where's the outrage? Nobody cares because they are democrats and everyone it seems to understand this is just who they are. Criminals - Republicans of course are held to much higher standard of morality and honesty.

Little wonder the democrats are in full flow now as the next nation elections is at hand, funneling more $billions into the next renewable energy projects that worked so well the last time even though 24 of the 26 projects in the last 6 years have failed. $Billions lost except of course for the $millions that found there way into the hands of democrats.

Obama's Green Loan Program Dumps $2.2 Billion on Taxpayers

Taxpayers are on the hook for more than $2.2 billion in expected costs from the federal government's energy loan guarantee programs, according to an audit by the Government Accountability Office that suggests the controversial projects may not pay for themselves, as officials had promised.

The green program loan guarantees were created in a 2005 law and boosted by the 2009 stimulus. The first applications were approved in 2009, and through 2014, the Obama administration had issued some 38 loans and guarantees, covering 34 projects ranging from nuclear power plants to fuel-efficient vehicles to solar panels and wind-generation technology.
Here are the facts:
  • Nearly $1 billion in loans have already defaulted under the Department of Energy program.
  • Across the entire loan program, the five defaulted loans belong to companies the GAO warned were risky.
  • GAO investigators have been warning for nearly a decade that the loan programs are unlikely to pay for themselves.
From the beginning, the investigators said because companies knew more about their projects and their own creditworthiness, they had an advantage over the Energy Department. The GAO said the companies were more likely to accept a federal loan guarantee if the Obama administration underestimated the actual risk of a project, leaving taxpayers on the hook.
The GAO reported to Congress that, "As of November 2014, DOE estimates the credit subsidy cost of the loans and loan guarantees in its portfolio — that is, the total expected net cost over the life of the loans — to be $2.21 billion, including $807 million for loans that have defaulted." Meanwhile, the Energy Department said it considers the loan program a success.
