New Mexico's Free Tuition : Something For Nothing?

Free means less of everything in the end!

Student loan debt is more the 1.5 $Trillion dollars and growing. Why is that? Just as soon as the federal government took over student loan business, the tuition exploded. Taxpayers have deep pockets

Colleges understood that with the government handing out the money, the sky was the limit.

How will things be different when college administers begin to demand more money as the number of students attending higher education becomes untenable. Even now more then 40% of college student don't belong in higher education as they, for the most part aren't capable or care enough to make it work for them.

Just wait until the good times are free!

More buildings for more class rooms and more instructors. The demand will be for more of everything!  There would no end to the demands for more money.

In reality, making anything free just means you're getting nothing in return!

Why New Mexico’s ‘Free College’ Plan Likely Will Backfire

New Mexico has become the most recent state to succumb to liberal demands for tuition-free college.

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, a Democrat, recently announced support for legislation that would enable New Mexico students who maintain a 2.5 GPA in high school to attend public colleges and community colleges tuition-free starting next fall under a proposed Opportunity Scholarship.

As with every “free” college program, New Mexico’s proposed Opportunity Scholarship program is riddled with problems.

The program will cost between $25 million and $35 million annually, enough to put considerable strain on New Mexico taxpayers without addressing the underlying problems that drive higher education costs. It also will be a “last-dollar program,” meaning it covers tuition only after all scholarships and state and federal aid have been exhausted.

This will encourage students to max out other aid programs and, according to research, inflate tuition costs.  Unlike New York’s Excelsior Scholarship Program, which caps eligibility at $125,000 of family income per year, there would be no such limit on the New Mexico program.

Even today, only a third of all Americans hold bachelor’s degrees. New Mexico’s program, if approved, would enable wealthy students to attain this critical credential for top jobs at the expense of hardworking taxpayers, most of whom have not earned degrees.

Ultimately, eliminating tuition for students will not improve higher education quality or address the root cause of its runaway costs.

Students want a system that prepares them for a profitable career after graduation without burdening them with significant loan payments. “Free” college sounds like a solution to that problem, but it will hurt the quality of the education that paying customers receive and ultimately render higher education less meaningful, by encouraging all Americans to attend college regardless of their career and life aspirations.

Notably, making it easier for people to attend college does not guarantee life success. While many students benefit immensely from a college degree, far too many students end up dropping out, and many who make it to graduation have trouble finding a well-paying job that matches their skillsets and settle for a job that only requires a high school degree.

According to the New York Federal Reserve Bank, 44% of recent college graduates are in jobs that do not require a college degree. Many in those jobs would’ve been better off financially never to have attended.

New Mexico’s push to become the second state to provide two- and four-year public college (after New York) for “free” operates under the false assumption that everyone should go to college. Instead, state legislators should bolster short-term programs that focus on marketable skills. A four-year bachelor’s degree is a good option for some, but not all students.

New Mexico’s push to adopt tuition-free college points to a larger shift in the national conversation regarding higher education. Whether at the state or federal level, “free” college is hardly free at all. In fact, free college would be tremendously costly to students, taxpayers, and the economy at large.

Being Retired Has It's Advantages : Parking Tickets! Yikes!

My wife and I went into town to go shopping.

When we came out, there was a cop writing out a parking ticket. We went up to him and I said, "Come on man, how about giving a senior citizen a break?" He just ignored us and continued writing the ticket.
I called him an "a**hole." He glared at me and started writing another ticket for having worn-out tires. So my wife called him a "s*ithead." He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first. Then he started writing more tickets. This went on for about 20 minutes. The more we abused him, the more tickets he wrote. He finally finished, sneered at us and walked away.


Just then our bus arrived, and we got on it and went home. We always look for Elizabeth Warren bumper stickers. We try to have a little fun each day now that we're retired. It's so important at our age!!

Losing Weight And Other Phenomena : Who Knew?

Things that happen but we don't know why?

1. My goal for 2019 was to lose 10 pounds. Only have 14 to go.

2. Ate salad for dinner. Mostly croutons & tomatoes. Really just one big round crouton covered with tomato sauce. And cheese. FINE, it was a pizza.. I ate a pizza, are you happy?
3. How to prepare Tofu:
a. Throw it in the trash
b. Grill some meat, chicken or fish
4. I just did a week's worth of cardio after walking into a spider web.
5. I don't mean to brag, but I finished my 14-day diet food supply in 3 hours and 20 minutes.
6. A recent study has found women who carry a little extra weight live longer than men who mention it.
7. Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.
8. Senility has been a smooth transition for me.
9. Remember back when we were kids and every time it was below zero outside they closed school? Yeah, Me neither.
10. I may not be that funny or athletic or good looking or smart or talented. I forgot where I was going with this.
11. I love being 84, I learn something new every day and forget 5 others.
12. A thief broke into my house last night. He started searching for money so I got up and searched with him.
13. I think I'll just put an "Out of Order" sticker on my forehead and call it a day.
14. November 3, 2019 marks the end of Daylight Saving Time. Hope you didn't forget to set your bathroom scale back 10 pounds on Saturday night.

The Black Community Is Conservative? : Why Vote democrat?

Great! The author lays out here the problems that the black comunity has with Conservatives. But what is the answer? If blacks are conservative why do they vote for democrats in mass  when they know democrats want to do them harm? The democrats have never ever delivered on their promises to bring the blacks into the fold of the democrat collective. And yet they continue to vote democrat.

What is the truth about blacks that fear white Republicans, Conservatives as being uneducated  about who and what blacks are all about as this author clams? Maybe the Conservatives need to have some serious discussions with the black community about what each other thinks they know about each other.

The time is perfect to begin that discussion as the progressive socialist liberal democrats have decided America as founded is no longer a viable solution to our problems! 

What Conservatives Must Understand About Black Americans

Over the years, many prominent conservatives have asked me why blacks are not more involved in the Republican Party and the conservative movement.

The answer is very simple: Conservatives have shown no demonstrable indication to the black community that we are welcomed by the party or the conservative movement.  As a matter of fact, conservatives force “real” blacks to make a false choice: to be black or conservative, as though we can’t be both.

Most blacks are conservative by nature and by upbringing. “Real” blacks don’t check their blackness at the door when they join a conservative group. We still know and experience racism whenever we leave our homes. We still sometimes hear and experience racial insensitivities when we go to meetings of conservatives.

Is this done on purpose? Of course not, but it happens because the few blacks whom conservative surround themselves with tend not to have any connection to the black community.  They tend to be blacks who will go out in public and say things that a white person can only dream of being able to say and get away with it.

These are the blacks who claim they see no color; they claim racism doesn’t exist. They never miss an opportunity to criticize Al Sharpton. But they always seem to get a sudden case of laryngitis when a conservative says something negative or inappropriate about the black community.

Conservatives tend to surround themselves with blacks who make them feel comfortable, as opposed to blacks who can help them move the conservative agenda forward. But before we can move the conservative agenda forward, we must first rehabilitate the meaning and brand of the word “conservatism.”

When blacks hear the word conservatism, we hear Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms, segregationist senators from South Carolina and North Carolina, respectively.  In their later years, they actually became quite supportive of several issues of particular concern to the black community, such as historically black colleges and universities.

The brands of the Republican Party and the conservative movement are so damaged that blacks can’t hear a damn thing they are saying, even though on issue after issue we are on the same page.

Blacks don’t support homosexuality, amnesty for illegal aliens, or the radical transgender agenda. If conservatives really believe conservative ideas can and will solve the problems in Baltimore, Ferguson, St. Louis, and Los Angeles, when will they take their solutions to the marketplace of ideas within the black community?

I graduated from Oral Roberts University and Oral would always tell me: “Go into every man’s world and meet them at the point of their need.”  Blacks don’t need to be persuaded; we are the most conservative group in the U.S. We don’t need to be convinced; blacks are already convinced that liberalism has destroyed the black community.

We need only be invited to become part of the team.

This invitation must come with no strings attached. Conservatives must be willing to open their minds to a new perspective. They must be willing to try to understand why my heart starts racing when a police car pulls up behind me at a stop light.

They must understand why I have resigned from several campaigns because white staffers thought they knew more about the black community than me.

Several friends of mine in Congress understand these issues and are working with me in tangible ways to move the conservative needle forward in the black community.

As a quote sometimes attributed to the poet and essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson goes, “The mind, once stretched by a new idea, never returns to its original dimensions.”

In my writing, I hope to stretch the minds of the conservative community into understanding that the black community is begging them for a reason to formally join the conservative cause.

In so doing, conservatism will never be the same, the black community will never be the same, and America will never be the same.

In Germany alone in the last year there were 81 violent attacks targeting mosques.

Austrian police arrested 13 men targeting suspected jihad recruiters.

A Chinese court sends 22 Muslim Imams to jail  for 16 to 20 years for spreading Islam hatred.  And have executed eighteen Jihadists;  China campaigns against Separatism (disallowing Islamist to have their own separate state). Muslim prayers banned in government  buildings and Schools in Xinjiang (Western China). Hundreds of Muslim families prepared to leave China for their own safety and return back  to their own Middle Eastern countries.

Muslim refugees beginning to realize that they are not welcome in Christian countries because of their violent ways and the continuing wars in Syria and Iraq whipped up by the hideous IS who are murdering young children and using  mothers and daughters as sex slaves.

The new British Home Secretary prepares to introduce 'Anti-social Behaviour Order' for extremists and strip dual nationals of their Citizenship. Deportation laws also being  prepared.

The Czech Republic blatantly refuses Islam in their country, regarding it as evil.

Alabama - A new controversial amendment that will ban the recognition of "foreign laws which would include Sharia law".

The Polish Defence League issues a warning to Muslims. 16 States have all Introduced legislation to ban Sharia Law.

Many Muslims in Northern Ireland have announced plans to leave the country to avoid anti-Islamic violence by Irish locals. The announcement comes after an attack on groups of Muslims in the city of Belfast, groups of Irish locals went berserk and bashed  teenage Muslim gangs who were referring to young Irish girls as sluts and should be all gang raped, according to Islam and ''Sharia  Law''.

Even hospital staff were reluctant to treat the battered Muslim patients, the majority were given the Band-Aid treatment and sent home with staff muttering ''Good Riddance''.

North Carolina bans Islamic "Sharia Law" in the State, regarding it now as a criminal offence.

Dutch MPs call for removal of all mosques in the Netherlands. One member of the Dutch Parliament said: "We want to clean Netherlands of B Islam".  Dutch MP Machiel De Graaf spoke on behalf of the Party for Freedom when he said, "All mosques in the Netherlands should be shut down. Without Islam, the Netherlands would be a wonderful safe country to live in, as it was before the arrival of  Muslim refugees''.
