It's a matter of perspective which is developed from experience in living among relative intellectuals similar to yourself. Developing an identity based on realty is much to stressful. But having close friends that support your membership in a group is very satisfying and rewarding.
Sadly, to actually solve problems one must confront reality. To live a life of make-believe and fantasy is to deny who you think your are and fearful of finding out.
