States Spurning Election Commission Show Irregularities in Voter Registration

Many of the states refusing to cooperate with President Donald Trump’s election commission aren’t in compliance with federal law on maintaining voter registration lists, according to government watchdog groups. So far, 18 states and the District of Columbia have declined or are still considering whether to provide election data to the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity, established in May to examine and prevent voter fraud, among other concerns.

The commission requested voter registration data from every state and the District and 14 states include counties where registered voters outnumbered eligible voters based on Census Bureau data, according to findings from Judicial Watch, a conservative legal group. When dead people or those no longer living in a specific voting jurisdiction continue to be registered there, voter integrity advocates argue, the likelihood for voter fraud increases.

The National Voter Registration Act of 1993, better known as the “motor voter” law, requires states to make a reasonable effort to remove the names of ineligible voters from official lists due to “the death of the registrant” or “a change in the residence of the registrant,” and ensure that noncitizens are not registered to vote. Several states that initially declined to cooperate with the White House commission—New York and Mississippi among them—provided only partial information.

‘Counties With Problems’

Red and blue states are among the uncooperative jurisdictions, watchdog groups say.  Kentucky, a decisively red state in previous elections, had the most counties where registered voters outnumber eligible voters. California, a strongly blue state, also had significant problems, according to findings from Judicial Watch and the Public Interest Legal Foundation, both conservative watchdog groups.

Other states that outright refuse to cooperate with the commission are Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, and Wyoming. The states of Arizona, Illinois, and Indiana are still undecided.

“Overall, in most of the states not providing information to the commission, there are a significant number of counties with problems,” Robert Popper, senior attorney for Judicial Watch and director of its Election Integrity Project, told The Daily Signal, adding: Most voter registration lists are available for free or for a small fee. Commercial entities can obtain voter registration lists. The only entity that is having a hard time obtaining these lists is the president’s advisory commission, which is trying to investigate data everyone has access to.

‘Bad Voter Rolls’

Trump named Vice President Mike Pence as chairman of the election commission and Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, also a Republican, as vice chairman.

Since it began work in July, the White House commission has been under siege by litigation brought by liberal groups—and more recently by one of the panel’s own Democratic members, Maine Secretary of State Matt Dunlap. Last month, the bipartisan commission, which initially had seven Republicans and five Democrats, was rocked by the death of Democrat David Dunn, a former Arkansas state legislator.

Commission member Hans von Spakovsky, a senior legal fellow at The Heritage Foundation, said it’s not a coincidence that states that aren’t cooperating have had voter registration issues. “I don’t think these states want the public to find out how bad their voter rolls are and the amount of ineligible voters that are still registered,” von Spakovsky told The Daily Signal.

Judicial Watch last week announced it was suing Kentucky, after Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes, a Democrat, refused to provide data to the commission and criticized its investigative efforts. “Kentucky will not aid a commission that is at best a waste of taxpayer money and at worst an attempt to legitimize voter suppression efforts across the country,” Grimes said.

Sabotage or Negligence?

The Judicial Watch lawsuit contends that Kentucky doesn’t comply with the National Voter Registration Act because 48 of the state’s 120 counties—or 40 percent—list more registered voters than they have adult citizens eligible to vote. The Kentucky secretary of state’s office did not respond to phone and email inquiries Tuesday from The Daily Signal.

In a statement published in several media outlets, however, Grimes spokesman Bradford Queen said the Judicial Watch lawsuit is “without merit” and is an attempt to “make it harder for people to vote.”
Since becoming secretary of state in 2011, he said, Grimes has used the law to remove 350,000 ineligible voters from the state’s voter rolls.

If a successful lawsuit can’t be brought against Kentucky for noncompliance with the National Voter Registration Act, Judicial Watch’s Popper said, it can’t be brought anywhere. “We are nonpartisan and sued a very red state, but the fact is, Kentucky has the worst problem in the nation regarding invalid voters,” Popper said.

The Public Interest Legal Foundation did a separate study using somewhat different metrics. It also found that Kentucky surpassed all other states in apparent irregularities in the voter rolls, as home to 41 of the nation’s 248 counties across 24 states listing more registered voters than eligible adults.
“Voter fraud begins with corrupted voter rolls,” said J. Christian Adams, president of the Public Interest Legal Foundation and a member of the president’s commission, in a statement after the September study, adding:

Our nation’s voter rolls have records that cannot be distinguished between living or dead; citizen or alien; resident or relocated. We hear about possible cyberattacks, but we aren’t doing enough to fix voter rolls that are certainly corrupt. The voter rolls are so bad in some states that election officials would have a hard time telling the difference between sabotage and negligence.

Adams is a former lawyer in the voting rights section of the Justice Department.

‘Debunked Claims’

Judicial Watch sent a “notice of violation” letter to California and 11 local jurisdictions in the state threatening to sue in federal court if they don’t clean their voter registration lists. For example, it said Los Angeles had 112 percent voter registration based on eligible voting population, San Diego had 138 percent, and San Francisco had 114 percent. A spokesman from the California secretary of state’s office did not respond to phone and email inquiries Tuesday from The Daily Signal. In June, California Secretary of State Alex Padilla, a Democrat, refused to provide voter lists to the commission, saying:

I will not provide sensitive voter information to a commission that has already inaccurately passed judgment that millions of Californians voted illegally. California’s participation would only serve to legitimize the false and already debunked claims of massive voter fraud made by the president, the vice president, and Mr. Kobach.

Judicial Watch sent similar letters to election officials in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, and Tennessee. Popper said these states were chosen either because they had the most counties with suspect voter rolls, or, in some cases, a single populous county with problematic voter lists. Most of the other states that either refused to cooperate with the election integrity commission or are still considering it have issues in some counties with voter list problems, Popper noted.

Where Questionable Numbers Are

According to Judicial Watch’s findings, two of 15 counties in Arizona, which is undecided about cooperating, list more registered voters than eligible voters. Two of eight counties in Connecticut, which has refused to cooperate, are not in compliance with the “motor voter” law regarding maintaining voter lists.

In Delaware, which isn’t cooperating, one of the state’s three counties had more registered voters than eligible voters. Illinois, which is undecided, has 26 of 102 counties with more registered voters than eligible voters, according to Judicial Watch. In Pence’s home state of Indiana, where the decision to cooperate with the White House commission is being held up by litigation, 34 of 92 counties have more registered than eligible voters.

In Maine, half of 16 counties have too many registered voters compared with those eligible, Popper said. In Maryland, it’s only two of 24 counties—Montgomery and Howard—but they are among the state’s largest. Massachusetts has two of 14 counties that have too many registered voters, and in New Mexico it’s six of 33 counties. Only two of Tennessee’s 95 counties have the issue, but Williamson County is one of the state’s largest, Popper noted. In Vermont, it’s four of 14 counties, and in Virginia, it’s 18 of 133 counties, Popper said.

As for other states that aren’t cooperating with the commission, South Carolina didn’t have any counties with the problem, Popper said, but election officials said the state won’t release data to anyone who isn’t a registered voter in the state.

The other states not complying with the commission—Minnesota, North Dakota, and Wyoming—are not subject to the “motor voter” law, Popper said. States that either had laws on the books in 1994 allowing same-day voter registration or didn’t require registration to vote were not subject to the law.
That’s why Judicial Watch didn’t track their status, Popper said. Other states with this exemption from the “motor voter” law are Idaho, New Hampshire, and Wisconsin.

NASA Physicist Explains Climate Change As Contemptuouly Wrong

Man-made climate change is on it face is a fraud, and worse a real national security risk. Simply a sinister political power and money making scheme to benefit a few at the expense of the many. They are putting our nation at risk.

It is the most contemptuous debauchery of common sense and logic, as well as an out right unethical and immoral decay of normal intellect that can be understood as one of the worst, if not the worst ruthless and lawless scientific atrocities to blight on our civil society. 

And worse yet, that our military leaders could be seen as to be so gullible to buy into this insanity that places the defense of the nation at risk is an abomination and a dereliction of duty on their part of the military.

I have stated many time what I think about this depraved and ludicrous idea, scam to eliminate fossil energy and replace it with an energy source that will not provide more then 13% of the expected need for energy over the next several decades to meet the demands of an ever expanding economy. Now how the hell will we survive if good and honest men and women believe this is a workable solution for energy independence?

Climate Change Alarmism Is ‘Garbage In, Garbage Out,’ Retired NASA Physicist Says

HOUSTON—Unvalidated climate models that don’t correspond with physical data and the requirements of the scientific method contribute to unfounded climate alarmism, a retired NASA physicist said at the Heartland Institute’s recent America First Energy Conference.

Since America’s national security depends in part on energy security, unsubstantiated claims about global warming that prevent policymakers from making “rational decisions” with regard to the development of U.S. energy resources have become a national security threat, said Hal Doiron, a 16-year NASA veteran.  The “propaganda” underpinning climate alarmism is “causing tremendous political bottlenecks” that prevent government officials from “doing the right thing” on energy, he said.

Doiron, who helped develop the Apollo Lunar Module’s landing dynamics software during NASA’s moon missions, also expressed concern that the U.S. military has been directly affected by climate alarmist claims separated from sound science.  He criticized the Navy for “preparing for something that is unreasonable and would cost too much money” in the form of “extreme sea-level rise,” which has not been borne out by rigorous scientific study.

Doiron defines unvalidated climate models as those that do not agree with physical data. Public policy and military planning should be based only on models validated by physical data, he said.
“At NASA, we have a policy: You can’t make a design decision on a spacecraft or rocket that is not validated,” he said. “You don’t make critical decisions based on ‘garbage in, garbage out.’ Yet our government has been doing that with respect to climate alarm, because too many academics in universities are writing papers, drawing conclusions from models that don’t agree with physical data.”

Doiron is part of a group called “The Right Climate Stuff,” which includes engineers and scientists from across generations who have taken part in NASA’s most high-profile missions dating back to Apollo. The group has produced its own “rigorous, earth surface temperature model using conservation-of-energy principles” that operates similarly to the way the surface and internal temperature of a spacecraft is analyzed, the Right Climate Stuff team explains on its website.

The reports produced from the analysis provide more “realistic projections” of the rise in the earth’s surface temperature over the next 150 years that show severe anti-fossil fuel regulations are not justified, Doiron and other former NASA team members contend. “The scientific method requires that your hypothesis and theories be confirmed by physical data,” he said. “Computer models are not physical data, although I think many in academia don’t understand that.”

When unvalidated models are compared with validated models based on physical evidence, the validated models predict much less global warming, Doiron said. Moreover, the fact that unvalidated models often don’t agree with each other should be a “big, red flag.”

The retired NASA physicist is calling for U.S. policymakers to establish official data on two key metrics; specifically, “the true sensitivity of surface temperature to greenhouse gases” and a “reasonable projection of greenhouse emissions and [the] concentrations rise in our atmosphere.”

Doiron and his team have developed “a new metric” called “transient climate sensitivity,” which measures how much warming can be seen with a doubling of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere in the “way that it’s actually happening,” based on a “very small amount of [carbon dioxide] each year.”
That’s something that can be measured and verified against available physical data, he said. But because policymakers, including military planners, are not operating from reasonable projections, they are not in a position to adequately plan for the future, Doiron cautioned.

Another way climate change alarmism has worked to undermine America’s national security standing is by consuming too much of the military budget at the expense of military readiness, a top naval commander said during the panel discussion.

Adm. Thomas Hayward, who retired from the Navy as chief of naval operations and a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff after serving as commander of the 7th Fleet and commander in chief of the Pacific Fleet, also addressed the Heartland Institute’s energy conference and sounded concerns.

For the past six to eight years, Hayward said, climate change has been given “a higher priority” than the readiness of the Navy’s fleet. During that time, the Defense Department has spent $100 billion on “just climate change,” while the Navy has spent “$58 billion chasing what is called the ‘green fleet.’”

That means many Navy vessels are using biofuels, but Hayward wonders how many ports around the world are equipped to accommodate Navy vessels that rely on a high percentage of biofuels, and he worries how that would work in a combat situation.

Q&A: Rep. Garret Graves Explains How His Food Stamp Bill Would Result in More Americans Working

Rep. Garret Graves, R-La., spoke to The Daily Signal’s Rachel Del Guidice earlier this month about his bill that would implement work requirements for those dependent on food stamps. The following is an edited transcript of the interview:

Del Guidice: Earlier this year you introduced a bill for work requirements for recipients of food stamps. Tell us a little bit about that bill, what it does.

Graves: Sure. We looked at models and what happened in pilot programs in Alabama, in Kansas, and in Maine. And there were some extraordinary success stories about how they were able to transition people from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, SNAP, into the workforce.

For example, in Alabama, in 11 counties where they tried this out, what they did is they transitioned about 85 percent of the people off of the SNAP program. In Kansas when they did this, they were able to incorporate 60 percent of work-capable individuals into the workforce. Exactly what we all seek. And of course it’s great for taxpayers and it’s great for those that are unemployed.

And then in Maine, looking at the way that they did it and extrapolating that program with some other modifications at the federal level, we believe we could save somewhere between $8-9, maybe even more, billion per year. Huge things for taxpayers.

So the bill is modeled after those pilot programs and it would simply connect job assistance programs and job training opportunities with those that are on the SNAP program, those that are unemployed, or impoverished, and dependent on government programs. So helping get people into the workforce, helps improve livelihood, improve health care, improve outcomes, and save taxpayers’ dollars. It really is a win-win-win opportunity.

Del Guidice: And you just finished up a panel here at The Heritage Foundation, our viewers can watch that at Heritage.org. You mentioned how work requirements, how incentivizing work is so needed in today’s world where we don’t incentivize work. Can you talk a little bit about that?

Graves: We were just with Congressman Jim Jordan and Congressman Jason Smith, and Congressman Smith was talking about nearly the $25 trillion that we’ve spent as a nation. Let’s keep in mind that is taxpayers’ dollars, hardworking taxpayers’ dollars. That’s $25 trillion we’ve spent over decades trying to fight this war on poverty, when effectively it has been a lost war. We have more people in poverty today.

So the idea is that we are not incentivizing work anymore in this country. That was an incentive in America, in our young nation. That you incentivize people to work, and that’s what caused us to become the most successful nation. Our citizens literally out-worked other countries. And so we’ve transitioned from that to incentivizing people to not work, by making it lucrative to be dependent upon government programs.

So the work requirement connects people with job opportunities, connects to job training, and it helps to change that incentive from not working to incentivizing people to actually work. And this is more than just about getting people off of government programs, you have people that are stuck generation after generation in a cycle of poverty. If we can put them on a pathway to prosperity, it is not just about income. You can look at studies that show improved livelihoods, that show improved health care, they show overall improved outcomes for these people. And breaking that cycle for future generations, it’s a huge opportunity here. And again, this isn’t some dream. This is modeled after successful pilot programs in states. So we’re really excited about this.

Del Guidice: In 2009, I believe, the Obama administration did away with the work requirements. And how do you answer push back from people who don’t want to see work requirements come back? How do you respond to that?

Graves: First of all, I think it’s important to note that those work requirements were put in place in ’96, that President [Bill] Clinton agreed with it, that Sen. Ted Kennedy agreed with it, and understood that the importance of that, of incentivizing people to work. And you can look at the success that occurred after the implementation of the ’96 welfare reform.

In 2009, President [Barack] Obama demanded that the work requirement be waived, 37 states, even today, still have a waiver in place. And that is when we saw the spike. So let me give you a few numbers: In 2000, you had approximately 17 million people that were dependent on the SNAP program. Today, it’s nearly 46 million people. In terms of financials, back around 2000 it was around $20 billion a year being spent. And it has absolutely exploded to an excess of $80 billion today.

So this isn’t a partisan issue, it doesn’t matter if you’re impoverished, if you’re a liberal, if you’re conservative, if you’re making high income. This really does benefit everyone. Because it benefits those that are unemployed, or those that are impoverished by giving them more opportunities and connecting them to the program and skills they need to get back into the workforce. And if you’re paying for these programs, it helps us to dedicate those limited tax dollars to other national priorities: reducing the debt, addressing infrastructure, and other things we need to be doing as a country.

Del Guidice: Yeah, we’re not just throwing away free money. We’re saying we want to help out our society here by doing this. I think you introduced this bill in June, what are the chances of it passing this year? Could it be tacked on to any major legislation? What are the chances of that happening in 2017?

Graves: I think in 2017, with the limited time we have, with our focus on tax and other things, it’s going to be difficult to do in 2017. But as you know, we’re likely going to be moving on a farm bill next year. There’s always been this connectivity between farm bill and food nutrition programs for the welfare programs.

And so, what we’re doing is we’re working to demonstrate broad support for this concept and building upon these models to where if they continue to have the connection between the two that we would have the opportunity to have real fundamental reform. And really address better outcomes, to where you give the impoverished a pathway for prosperity and we help to free up these tax dollars to address true priorities like deficit reduction, addressing infrastructure needs, and other things that our country is falling behind on.

Del Guidice: Well, Congressman, final question, today is a big day for the House because it is going to vote on tax reform. Do you think we’re going to see that become law by Christmas, as Trump is saying?

Graves: I’ll be very candid. I think this thing is going to pass out of the House, I think we’re going to have a good vote. I’m not sure that Americans fully appreciate how historic this is. This is an opportunity to just light the fire under the U.S. economy. To really improve our competitiveness. To help provide more economic opportunities. To help improve the health of the U.S. economy. This is something that truly can help every single American that’s out there.


My optimism about what’s going to happen in the Senate has dropped a little bit in recent days, looking at some of the concerns expressed by a few senators. But I still think that overall, everyone understands the importance of getting this done. In terms of really igniting the economy, really helping improve the health of the economy, and really raising wages giving us more employment choices. Huge, huge opportunity. I do think we can get this done by Christmas.

Yeah, I know, using the ''C'' word puts people on edge, but think about for a minute, and it's not just Limbaugh, there have been many others over the last decades that study the history of the contemptuous climate change movement, believe this corruption is fact.

Again, what better place for them to go then an organization that has no legitimate history but is based entirely on a proven lie, using flawed computer models only for it's agenda. How can this be a legitimate organization that is funded by $billions of dollars every year? And worse  that the lie climate change is so huge and pervasive that even a former agents of the Soviet Union can become accepted as experts in main stream America.

It's no secret that the main stream media is on board with perpetuating this ludicrous agenda.

As the saying goes, 'tell a lie big enough and often enough and soon it become fact'. This really is amazing that so many in this great country can be so easily led by so few.

Media Displays Delusion And Misinformation : A National Security Threat?

The main stream media's sickness has no bounds or limits to what it go to tell their story of progressive socialist liberalism. The problem is we done here in the trenches only know what these people are doing on the television screen each night, but what are they doing behind the nightly broadcasts.
